Broadband Wireless Report Confirms 1996 U.S. Markets Being Served By Wireless Service

The Broadband Wireless Census Report published by the Broadband Wireless Alliance, the research arm of Broadband Wireless Exchange, there are 1,966 U.S. markets currently being served with high-speed wireless Internet access service, up from 723 in 2000. In many cities, suburbs and rural areas, millions of customers still do not have a broadband option, and broadband wireless technology is providing a valuable method of reaching those subscribers.

"Hundreds of entrepreneurs at small ISPs are realizing that it only costs around $25,000 to build out a system that can serve 3,000 customers," says Robert Hoskins, managing director, Broadband Wireless Alliance. "And by charging a minimum of $50 per month, a broadband wireless system can deliver $1.8 million in revenue, which is a gold mine to most ISPs."
